FAIR Education Act

The FAIR Education Act took affect in January of this year. You’ve probably heard of it in the context of a vicious attack by the right wing over it’s requirement to teach lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT)  history in schools.  But that is only one-half of what this law mandates.  It also requires schools to teach the history of people with disabilities.

We discuss this groundbreaking law with two women who are talking to school board and teachers, and some students, in an attempt to get all our histories into the classroom as soon as possible.

Dolores Tejada is a community organizer for CRIL Community Resources for Independent Living, which has offices in Hayward, Livermore and Fremont. 

Judy Appel is the Executive Director of the San Francisco based, “Our Family Coalition” working on issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer families with children.
